About This Project

The Mount McDonald Wind Power Project aims to provide 250MW (megawatts) of reliable, wind power to the Provincial grid. The Project is of significant strategic benefit as it will supply many thousands of homes with clean renewable energy while also creating employment opportunities and economic development for Port Edward and Prince Rupert.

The Project is located near Port Edward BC encompassing three distinct proposed areas for development; Mount McDonald; Smith Island and Tsimpsean Ridge.

The Project will comprise of up to 150 wind turbines each of which will have between 1.8MW’s and 2.5MW’s of gross capacity, New access roads, new service roads and bridges, Upgrades to existing access roads and bridges; Marine transmission line, Underground transmission cables between towers, with overhead transmission lines from groups of towers to a substation located near the Project Site; Upgrades to the existing overhead transmission line and any new transmission required and; Substation, transformers, and service center.
