Ridley Coal Terminal Expansion
Ridley Terminals Inc is the most advanced terminal of its kind, making it a world leader in the efficient and reliable movement of coal and other bulk commodities from unit trains onto ships. The terminal has an annual shipping capacity of 12 million tonnes. Expansion plans are currently underway to increase annual throughput to 25 million tonnes by the end of 2014.
About This Project
January 3, 2013: Construction at Ridley Terminals continues at a steady pace. Two dumper barrels were installed in December 2011, which marked the first actualized capacity growth at the terminal since it was commissioned in 1983. 2011’s planned works wrapped up with the clearing of 44 acres of additional lands for improvement. 2012 involved site civil works, installation of additional conveyance, installation and upgrade of rail infrastructure, and delivery of the third stacker/reclaimer by Sandvik in November.
In 2013 construction will continue with the integration of new lands into the existing operation and upgrades to the existing stacker/reclaimers. In 2014 a new tandem rotary dumper and a new thaw shed will be added to the Terminal’s operation,
doubling total terminal capacity from the initial 12 Mt/y. The Ridley Terminals capacity realization project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014.
The Ridley Terminals Capacity realization project will cost approximately $200 million and is funded entirely by revenue from operations. The project is expected to require an approximate total of 690,000 person hours, or 350 person years, during the construction period.
Currently Ridley Terminals employs over 131 people at the terminal, and more positions will be added as capacity continues to increase through 2014.
